How we deliver lasting improvement
We’re proud to provide best-in-class mental health care for a wide variety of emotional and behavioral challenges. Here’s how we do it.

Gold-standard behavior therapy
We lead with evidence-based care. Our therapists primarily use CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), the gold-standard, first-line treatment for anxiety, depression, and other common mental health challenges. CBT helps kids, teens, and young adults develop practical skills they can use every day for lasting emotional resilience.
Close collaboration with parents
Parents are essential partners in the therapy process, which is why our care model includes ongoing training and support just for you. We offer scheduled parent training sessions using BPT (behavioral parent training), a research-backed approach that helps parents manage emotional and behavioral challenges at home with confidence and consistency.
We also encourage regular check-ins with your child’s therapist between sessions, so you can stay in the loop and feel supported every step of the way.
Providers with the tools to succeed
Our licensed therapists and clinicians are specially trained to work with children and adolescents across all stages of development. But we don’t stop at credentials — we invest in continuous growth.
Every provider spends 15% of their weekly time in expert-led consultations, clinical case review, and ongoing training, ensuring that they’re always equipped to deliver the highest quality care. Because better-supported therapists mean better outcomes for your child.

FAQs
What age range do you treat?
We provide virtual therapy for:
- Children ages 8–12
- Teenagers ages 13–17
- Young adults ages 18–29
- Parents of children over age 2 for parent coaching and support.
Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person care?
Yes. For the most common mental health challenges in children and teens, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, virtual therapy is clinically proven to be just as effective as in-person care.
Comparable Outcomes: A major 2021 meta-analysis published in American Psychologist reviewed data from tens of thousands of youth and found that teletherapy outcomes were comparable to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Strong Connection: Studies confirm that the "therapeutic alliance" (the trust and bond between a child and their therapist) forms just as strongly over video as it does face-to-face.
Better Consistency: Virtual care often leads to higher attendance rates because it removes common barriers like travel time, traffic, and scheduling conflicts.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — we’re in-network with:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Aetna
- Oscar
- UnitedHealthcare
- Optum
- Cigna
- AmeriHealth
Before services start, we’ll verify your benefits and let you know your exact copay. Most families pay less than $30 per session (including all costs such as copays, deductibles, and coinsurance).
We currently do not accept Medicaid, CHIP, or other state-based plans.
Can I talk to my child’s therapist between sessions?
Absolutely - we see parents as essential partners in the therapy process. We encourage regular check-ins with your child’s therapist between sessions so you can stay in the loop and feel supported every step of the way.
What happens during the consult call?
Your 30-minute consult is a chance to share what’s going on for your child, learn about Handspring’s approach, and see if we’re the right fit. We’ll walk through your goals, answer questions, and outline what care could look like for your family.
Who joins the call?
Typically, a parent or guardian joins the call. If your child is 18 or older, they’re welcome to join directly — or together with you if that feels best.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No referral is needed. Parents and caregivers can book directly with us — it only takes a few minutes.
What if I want a consult for multiple children?
We’re happy to accommodate families with multiple children. Consults last 30 minutes for one child, 45 minutes for two, and 60 minutes for three.
