Children and adolescents of all ages, genders, races, and body types may experience disordered eating, yet common misconceptions about who may be affected may make detection, diagnosis, and treatment difficult. Educators and school-based mental health professionals are uniquely positioned as possible first detectors and responders for young people experiencing disordered eating. They may be valuable allies to treatment teams, providing collaboration within the school setting to best support a student’s recovery or may find themselves as a first point of contact for students who may require further support and intervention. This webinar will provide attendees with a foundational knowledge of various eating disorders. Participants will learn common warning signs and symptoms, as well as how to appropriately screen students and facilitate referrals for additional support when needed. Additionally, attendees will gain insights into common treatment approaches for eating disorders and will learn practical interventions that may be utilized in the school setting to support students.

In today's high-pressure educational environment, school mental health professionals face a critical challenge: maintaining their own well-being while supporting diverse student needs. With unprecedented levels of burnout in the field, it's crucial for these professionals to develop robust self-care strategies that enhance their capacity to serve students effectively.

In this 1-hour training, we will explore practical tools to counteract burnout using Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). This session will provide participants with a foundational understanding of the emotional regulation systems that contribute to burnout and introduce evidence-based interventions that promote self-compassion and emotional resilience. Through guided practices and real-world applications, attendees will gain the skills to foster a more compassionate inner dialogue and support a collaborative culture of compassion within their schools.

It is estimated that one in 12 children in the United States of America will experience the death of a parent or sibling before they turn 18 (JAG, 2023). This roughly translates to two-three students per classroom. In Dr. Heitkemper's presentation, attendees will embark on a journey to comprehend the multifaceted impacts of grief on a student's developmental journey and academic trajectory. By delving into research-backed insights and real-world anecdotes, participants will enhance their toolbox of grief resources and gain invaluable skills to navigate sensitive conversations with grieving students and families.

Many school mental health professionals find they struggle to make meaningful headway with students when parents and caregivers are inadvertently reinforcing behavioral escalations (e.g. lowering expectations for the student's functioning in the face of threats to harm self/others, property destruction, etc.). This webinar will focus on providing school mental health professionals with tangible strategies and protocols to help caregivers plan ahead for these "extinction bursts" on the path to supporting students in developing more effective self-management skills.

Racism unfortunately continues to impact the lives of our young people. However, it can be hard, as clinicians, to know how to efficiently conceptualize the impacts of these racism-related experiences in ways that clarify avenues for offering support and healing. In this webinar, you will learn how to flexibly adapt your treatment plans for such experiences when working with youth who identify as persons of color. Specifically, this webinar will demonstrate how to conduct a REACH-Informed Case
Conceptualization - a conceptualization format that helps clinicians clarify sources of racism-related stress, the impact of this stress, and treatment options for supporting youth with the racism-related stresses they encounter. We will likely have time for 1-2 attendees to seek consultation about their own cases, so feel tree to bring a case to potentially discuss.

Bridging research and practice, we will review rationale for these practices as well as ways to apply them in schools. Experiential exercises and concrete strategies will be provided to enhance well-being for both educators and students, and resources will be shared for continued learning in these areas.

In today’s educational landscape, school mental health professionals face a new and complex challenge: how to support students struggling with executive function skills in a post-pandemic world. From lapses in attention and memory to difficulties with motivation, organization, and task completion, students are increasingly facing hurdles that can impede their success both academically and emotionally.

Join Sarah for a transformative keynote that will offer a fresh perspective on executive function and executive dysfunction. Through her innovative 360 Thinking model, Sarah will unpack how students can develop "a memory for the future"—building the skills they need to set and achieve goals, self-initiate, manage their time, transition smoothly between tasks, and control impulses.
